Historical evolution
Becker soon arrived at Paramount Flag in San Francisco to discuss mass-producing and selling his "gay flag." Unfortunately, since Becker dyed all the colors by hand and there was no bright pink dye available on the market, it seemed impossible to mass-produce his eight-striped flag, so the design was reduced to seven colors.
To express the strength and unity of the gay community after the shock, the Pride Parade Committee decided to adopt Becker's flag in 1979.
